The Library at Mount Char || Book Review

The Library at Mount Char Book Review

Horrifyingly cruel and surprisingly funny. This book revolves around a whole new world of fantasy. I honestly have never read anything like that. The author, Scott Hawkins, did a wonderful job creating this incredible world of death, power, and the universe.

It's about a girl named Carolyn who is a 'librarian'. She studies all kind of languages; French, German, Spanish, and even the language of the animals but she was not alone at this house of wonders. Her Father adopted others as well. Like David, who could kill anything, anyone, and anywhere. Jennifer, who could heal people and even the dead. Micheal, who could talk to animals. Margaret, who wonder at the forgotten land searching for the dead. All of them were trained by their Father in ways that are unthinkable and brutal. One day, their Father was missing and whiles finding their Father, an untold story and secret was revealed.

I died so many times reading this book. It was scary, cruel, and really funny. The story might not make much sense in the beginning but the ending will blow your mind! There's a perfect balance between action and humor which I think was really cleaver of the author to do so. Over all I think it was an amazing book and a really satisfying read.

The Lean Green Super Powder from Vivarise

I was sent some samples a few months ago but to be honest I was quiet anxious to try them and also because I was traveling a lot so I had no time to play around with it in the kitchen. However, when I got back from a long vacation, I feel the need to detox and start fresh. (Lets face it guys, we all feel this way after a long trip) I decided to add some of the powder into my smoothie and oh my goodness gracious I cannot describe how amazing it tasted. You wouldn't get used to it at first but after the second or third bite, you will find yourself digging into the bowl like a mad person. The saddest part will have to be when your spoon hits the bottom of the bowl and you only have one spoon full left. That's the saddest part! I think it is probably 27 calories per pack and the ingredient are all amazing; like, kale, spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass, bitter melon, barley grass, lemon and 4 other super food ingredients. It is dairy-free, gluten-free, soy-free, and vegan. I seriously recommend it. There are a lot of benefits to it and you can check them out here

Hope you all have a lovely summer and I know school is starting soon but hey, look on the bright side, Halloween and Christmas is coming soon too !

A Thousand Pieces of You

A Thousand Pieces of You

If you love the Inferior Device Series then you will love this one. It was exciting, there was dimension traveling, secrets and mysteries, and romance. After reading this book, the feels will hold onto you like paper and glue. Through out the book, you could really see how the characters especially Marguerite, had grew to become stronger and more independent.

It's about a girl named, Marguerite, who's father was murdered. Marguerite's parents are booth geniuses and together, they formed a team to build a teleport machines that could send people off to different dimensions. In each dimension, there's a version of yourself so when you teleport there, you basically borrow that body at that dimension. I know it's a lot to digest but it makes a lot more sense later. After Marguerite's father died, the person accused to have killed her father was Paul, her parent's partner who is both handsome and smart. (What more could you asked for? Really.) Paul was found missing after her father died and had used the teleport machines to travel through dimensions. Marguerite got so mad and wanted so badly to kill the man who murdered her father in cold blood. Paul and her father had known for so long and they were basically a family. Marguerite could not believed what Paul had done but her father was dead so she has no choice but to seek for revenge. Theo was another genius that worked with Marguerite's parents. He wanted to jump to other dimensions to find Paul. Marguerite wanted to go with and there was nothing Theo could say or do to change her mind.

Jumping through dimension was dangerous and tricky. You will forget who you are somethings or even why you were there. However, Marguerite did not experience any of that. She was perfectly fine. In different dimension, Marguerite learnt a lot about herself. Whenever she saw Paul in the dimensions, she could not believe that he was the one who killed her father. Paul has been so close to her and her family. When Marguerite and Paul finally met, the secret was reveled. The end was shocking and sad at the same time. I really hope the next sequence is out soon because I CANNOT !

A Day of Dessert

A Day of Dessert

I am not a huge dessert fan, in fact I probably only have dessert like once a month or only on special occasions. I am just not really a big fan. But a few days ago, I craved something icy and cold since the weather is blooming hot ! I went to the mall and spotted some wonderful healthy (maybe) desserts.

Red Bean paste with Sweet Potato and Yam balls

This dish has a unique twist to the old fashion Red Bean soup. I have a traditional recipe up here, so make sure to check that out. This dish was not overly sweet and the sweet potato and yam balls were really tasty.

Mango Jade

I am a mango addict. I go crazy for them. This dish was my drug. It had ice on the bottom, freshly squeezed lemon and lime on it, topped with mango puree, mangoes, and a light lemon jelly. To finish the dish off, it has a scoop of 100% mango and lime ice cream. The sweetness of the mango and the sourness of the lemon and lime were absolutely perfectly balanced. I have no words to describe how good this dish was.

Cinnamon Sugar Swirl

This is a cheeky little treat. It's basically, baked bread with cinnamon and brown sugar. As the bun was still hot, the cinnamon and sugar slowly melts and dissolves. It was utterly good. It was a little too sweet but hey, go big or go home right?

I am here to remind you that sometimes, desserts are also healthy. It is healthy for the soul to have some indulgent and for you to enjoy food. Allowing yourself to have a treat once in a while is totally okay. It won't ruin your body, it won't destroy your workout plans, and it won't make you gain a ton of weight the next day. Moderation is the key.

My tip for you is:

1. Ask a friend to come with you when you decide to yolo.
Having friends around to share a dessert is a good way to not let yourself eat everything on the plate, plus it's much more fun.

2. Choose something you know the ingredients of.
Like the mango Jade. I knew what was in it so when I break it down, it's not entirely unhealthy. It's a dessert but it is still not that bad in terms of nutrient.

3. Don't beat yourself up the next day after your yolo.
Don't run and extra hour, don't starve, don't restrict and DON'T FEEL GUILTY. We eat nutrient dense food because it is good for the body but we also should eat dessert because it's good for the soul.

The Bane Chronicles Book Review

The Bane Chronicles Book Review

I love Magnes as a character and I adore his personality. This book screams HELL YEAH the first time I got it. But honestly, I was a little disappointed in the beginning. I wanted more Alex and more romance.  HOWEVER, after two chapters into the book, I was insane over it ! It was exciting and honestly a really satisfying good read. My favorite part would have to be chapters about Alex and also Clary. (of course)

This book consists of short stories about Magnes Bane's life so I cant really sum up what this book is about. Its a lot of things but it is also just one. It's not only the interesting and exciting life you get to read about (the parties, the magic life summoning demons); there're also part where you get to see who Magnes really is and what he stands for. He is a warlock, a Downworlders, but he has a soul full of pain and love. At times, you will feel so happy for him when he found someone to love but there are also times where you just want to jump into the book to hug and squeeze him with much love while grieving for his heartache.

Magnes is someone you would want as a best friend, a boyfriend, or just a listener. He is funny, loyal and always protects the ones he loves. He has the softest heart that was build around a strong and noble personality. There are people you spend time around with that makes you feel happy but Magnes makes you feel safe.

I am deeply scarred after finishing this book. I never want it to end!  I hate that when you love a book so much, you tend to read through the pages faster but once you reached the end, you regret not digesting every word in slowly. Argh. But all great things must come to an end.

If you love the Mortal Instrument and the Infernal Devices, then this book is a must read. It makes a well connection with both of the series. The whole Shadowhunter world is so much more complete with The Bane Chronicles.

Compulsion Book Review

Compulsion

The love story in this book is both cheesy and romantic. You would be swipe off your feet reading this book. This book also consist of elements, like thriller, mystery, history, and fantasy. The FEELS are real!

When Barrie's mother died, she moved to South Carolina to live with her aunt, who was her mom's twin that Barrie had not met before or even heard of till the day her mom died. It was awkward but when she got to the plantation, her aunt Pru was kind and sweet to her. It almost reminded her of her mother because they look so alike except Barrie's mother was in a fire accident and was disfigured. Since then, Barrie's mother, Lula, never stepped outside her bedroom doors and Barrie hardly knew much of her own mother.

In this new environment, Barrie tried to cope with the changes she had to make. Her neighbor, Seven, who was a lawyer, came over to help solve her mother's death with her aunt. His son, Eight, came by as well. Barrie was caution around them but hey, who could turn down a cute neighbor?

Midnight.

Barrie couldn't sleep and something outside the  window was glowing and calling for her. She looked out the window and found someone or something burning fire on water. Since then, Barrie started to see things, ghosts and spirits. She then learnt from her aunt and Eight the history of the island. There were three founding fathers, two was gifted by the spirit and one was cursed. Barrie was stuck in the middle of the mess. She had to find out what was the gift and the curse, who's story to believe in, why her mother left this island, and why is the spirit calling out to her?
