Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Oh man. where do I start? You know when you read Cassandra Clare's book, you have to be prepared for your heart to be shattered to million pieces.

The betrayal will swallow your heart with pain, the grief will bind you with sorrow, and the love will tear your soul into two.

I went to Cassandra Clare's Lady Midnight Tour and she told the audience, "just when you get to 2/3 of the book, get yourself ready in a fetus position."

Cruel but genius.

In the book, no spoilers, Emma wants to find out who killed her parents 5 years ago. She never has enough clues to figure it out and the Claves would not help her. She was on her own. Until recently, there has been some murder in the downworlders. Faeries have been killed, drowned, burned. Even worst, their body was marked with the same markings on Emma's parents. It drove Emma wild to find the murderer of her parents. Thank the Angel she has Julian Blackthorn, her parabatai, to anchor her back to herself.

The more they dig deeper into the mystery, the more lost they felt. The mystery was not only about Emma, but also about Julian and the rest of the Blackthorn. It was a mystery buried in ancient time with revenge and lost.

The ending will have you screaming for more and the love dilemma will have you drown in your own tears.

I will say no more. Cassandra Clare definitely has a way to draw her readings into her Shadow world and leads them into a remarkable adventure both physically and emotionally.

The Copper Gauntlet by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

The Copper Gauntlet by Holly Black and Cassandra Clare

This. Book. Is. INTENSE!

So in the end of the first book, Call discovered who he really is. Now, he has to hide what and who he is from his friends and Masters at the academy. Despite all that, his father is trying to kill him and death zombies are trying to kidnap him. When you think nothing else could possibly go wrong, your best friend betrays you and now the whole magical institute is looking for your dad to kill him. Yep, it's a handful.

In this book, you can really see how much Call personality has changed and grow after knowing who is his. You get to feel the dilemma and doubt that Call has after everything that happened to him. For a young teenage boy, he is really brave, funny, and so down to earth. You also can see how much his relationship with his friends has grown. Their bonds are literally like Harry Potter, Herminia, and Ron, or like Jace and Alec.

The ending of the book was both very heroic and smart. Call did something that he knew was going to kill him but he also knew if he didn't do it, everyone else will die. But the ending isn't the ending. Even though the war was over between the people and the Enemy of Death, there's still demons out there: demons that will stop at nothing to dim the light of good and lit the life of evil.

The Iron Trail by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black

The Iron Trail by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black

Another round of applause to Cassandra Clare for drowning me in her sea of words. I am obsessed with Cassandra Clare's writing. I know in this book series, she is writing it with Holly Black but as you read the book, you can sense a lot of Clare's style and imagination. After living in her mind space for more than 10 books, you will know what that lady is thinking and how she writes.

This book reminds me a little bit of Percy Jackson, some Harry Potter, and Clare's new book Shadowhunter Academy. It's about a boy, Call, who lives in this magical world where people can do tricks and play around with magic using the elements of earth, fire, water, and air. However, not everything is rainbows and unicorns. Call's father did not want Call to attend the magical school where they teach them powers and how to control them. He said that magic was evil; it killed Call's mother and it will kill Call too. That was not the end of the story. Long ago, there was two brothers, one became more powerful than the other. The powerful one became the leader and the brother became his assistance. They were a pair, like parabatai if you will. One day the brother died and the stronger brother wanted to bring him back to life. This leads him to a dark tunnel of evil and becoming the Enemy of Death. The academy and everyone was fighting this Enemy of Death for years because he was not only trying to bring people back to life but also breaking the rules of death. People who were brought back to life wasn't living; their souls were empty and they hearts were dark.

For years, people have been trying to find the Makar, a person who can defeat the Enemy and for years, they have failed, until Call came along. Call not only was able to learn more about magic and the history of his parents, he was able to learn who is really is and what he really was. Suddenly, his innocent, young life becomes a cloud of secrets and lies.

You will not believe how fast I read this book. It's just something about Clare's writing that can make you forget time, forget reality, and even your life. no joke. You can feel as if you are in the story. It is so easy to read, maybe because it was so interesting that you would not want to put the book down, and it was very challenging. There's a lot of friendship bond, action, secrets. All the juices you want in a good book ! Officially crowning Cassandra Clare the queen of fantasy writer.

Shadowhunter Academy

Shadowhunter Academy

If you love Simon in Clare's book, then you will fall in love with him again in this book.

Simon. He is smart, funny, innocent, and just the kind of guy you would want to spend your whole life with. He is also the kind of guy you wish you could punch sometimes to shake some sense out of him. In the last book of Mortal Instrument series, Simon gave up his memories to a demon in order for Clary, Jace, Izzy, Alex, and Magnus to go back to the human world. Once he got back, Clare didn't get to see him and his life went back to normal as if he and Clare never met. Clare was heartbroken, even more so with Izzy. When Magnus and Clare went to find Simon again after the big battle with Sebastian was over, they found out that he named his band "Shadowhunter," which obviously means he remembers some part of it, right? I mean it's Simon he is a curious little beast.

So Magnus got this idea of letting Simon into the shadow world again and give him back his memories by being a shadowhunter.

So Simon agreed. In this book, it's all about Simon going to the Shadowhunter Academy, learning how to be a shadowhunter, and hopefully be able to find a parabatai. Throughout the book, you will want to hug him because he just seems like a lost puppy without his memories but sometimes you will also want to punch him because of what he says to Izzy. He breaks up with Izzy because he says he can never be the Simon she remembers because he has forgotten who that Simon was. He says that it isn't right for him to let her wait till he gets his memories back and wants Izzy to move on.

Throughout his journey to be a shadowhunter, he lives in a nasty dorm, makes new incredible loyal friends and even some not so great ones, he also learns many skills and the history of the Shadowhunters. Most importantly, he gets to rediscover who he is and what he wants to be. He might never be the same Simon in the past that everyone remembers, but his is not less incredible now and I think everyone loves him regardless.

It's a soul grabber. It's a very short book but full of content and excitement. After this book, it's even harder to not love Simon and the Shadow world that Clare has created. It's both amazing and remarkably magical.

Glass Sword [UPDATE]

Glass Sword

The first book, Red Queen, got everyone excited for this book! Guys the fighting and the action in this book is real and so intense!

After escaping from Maven, Mara and her "gang" are now off to hunt down some "newborns", people like Mara with Silver and Red blood and have abilities, before Maven kills them all. Along the journey, Mara learns one thing and that is anyone can betray anyone, even herself. She isolated herself and became a different person. To her, Mara died when Maven betrayed her, now, she is the Lightning Girl. Along the journey, she finds deadly powerful newborns but with one additional member to her gang, another one dies. Maven is playing the hunting game with them and killing everyone in his way. With more lost and more sacrifices, Mara grows bitter. When the bell of the final battle rings, will Mara make more sacrifices or will she finish the job?

The ending had all my hopes shattered to pieces. I cannot believe the ending. It's rather disappointing actually. I cannot tell you how many time I reread the ending, hoping each time it will be different. ARGH, the struggle is real.

I also felt that the author was too caught up with wars and battles that she forgot to include some romance or some character-to-character bond in the book. Mara is overly obsessed with killing Maven that she forgets to stop and look around at the people who are fighting by her side, protecting her, and loving her. Although this book has many actions and adventures, from stealing a ship to releasing prisoners, it lacked the type of friendship or love between the characters. In conjunction to that, in this book, Mara was acting very isolated, she didn't trust anyone, not even herself sometimes, so it's all very dark and lonely to be in her mind for all the chapters till the end.

This book will be out on February 16, 2016 so make sure you mark it on your calendar !

The Remedy

The Remedy

This book is supposed to be the introduction to the book The Program. In this book, some teenagers under the age of 18 are trained to be closers. They are trained to help people get over their griefs and move on in life. Quinlan McKee is a closer since she was seven years old. Her mother died and her father works in the same field. Every week or two, she will be assigned to a family's house and help them grief over their loss. How does it works? Quinlan will study how they die, what they used to be like, how they talk, things they like to do, mimic their behavior, dress up like them, and becomes them. This job is not like therapy or counseling. Quinlan has to become the daughter of the family, she has to forget who she is to become another person. On one assignment, Quinlan has to pretend to be Catalina, whose death is undefined. The family is nice to her, Catalina has a boyfriend, and for once, Quinlan feels like she is living a normal life. She got depressed when she realize that in another two weeks she might be in another family's house, being someone totally different. She may be helping people grief but she still hurts. She may be taking other people's pain away but she is lost. She has to find herself again and anchor that in her before she is lost forever in another girl's life. While on this assignment, Quinlan becomes suspicious over Catalina's death and on the same time, her partner, Aaron, is also on an assignment and his patient's death is also undefined. There is a pattern to all the deaths and there is something going wrong with the system, and the cooperation and Arthur Pritchard (Creator of the Program) are at the center of it.

I never got so confused whiles having so much information and answers. This book is brilliant! The feelings were there and real. I never felt as lost as I am reading this book, so depressed and sad for Quinlan. She has to help others grief while she has no time to feel hurt and recover herself. However, how the book ended left me with more question than what I 've started with. I am really looking forward to another book to give me all the answers. This book has the elements of suspense, mystery, romance, betrayal, and psychological drama, that readers will fall head over heels for. It's like PB&J sandwich, all mushed up together, don't look so great, but brilliantly combined.

The Treatment

The Treatment

You matter - Realm

I am helplessly destroyed by this book. It was amazing! It's actually rare for all the books in a series to all be amazing but Young did a wonderful job in keeping her readers hooked. In the book, the Program would give patients pills to erase their memories, I think that is what Young is trying to do. Giving her readers excitement, suspense, betrayal, and romance, then leaving her reader to dwell in her world and forgetting reality; the world where friendship, hope, and love is the Treatment to depression.

So the first book of the series, the Program, left off with Sloan and James running away. In this book, both of them join the rebellions but there was something fishy about them. James and Sloan cannot trust anyone. Things didn't go as well as planned and the Program are now hunting them. With no one they can trust, Sloan and James have to stick together but something came between them. Sloan is captured and brought back to the Program. This time, they will not just erase her memory but they will make that she is erased from the world.

Reading this book, being in Sloan's mind, and experiencing what she is going through, feeling what she is feeling, and just living in her thoughts can be both dangerous and exciting. When I take a step back from the book, I actually have to gather my thoughts together and get back to myself and to reality. Young definitely has her way of making her readers feel involved in the story. It was a brilliantly, well written, amazingly told story and I wish the tale would not end.

“It's taken me all this time, all this loss, to realize what really matters is now.”

The Program

The Program

I think prince charming is too old school, every girl deserves a James in their life. Every girl needs a boy that can remind them how lovely they are even then they look like a laughing giraffe. Every girl needs a boy that can pick up her broken pieces and cherish them like his own. Every girl needs a boy to tell them "everything will be okay," when she lost hope, even though he does not believe that tomorrow will be okay, he needs her to believe so. James is that guy.You know when nothing's going right, James will make everything better. But what happens when James cannot make it better?

Sloan is broken but she has to fake it to live. She has to fake it or she will be sent to The Program. The Program is where people go when they are depressed. The people in the Program "fix" them. When the "patient" comes out of the six-week program, they are empty souls. They can no longer remember their past, they can no longer remember who they were or who they are. When Sloan's brother dies, Sloan was broken but James was there to fix her. Now, a good friend of theirs commits  suicide, Sloan has to keep James together or he will be sent to the Program.

When James' situation gets worse, he is sent to the Program. A week later, so does Sloan. The six-week in the Program is horrible. She wants to hold on to her memories because they are all she has but the Program slowly strips them away from her, one by one. After six weeks, she no longer remembers anything from the past, she no longer remembers who she was like before. It's as if she is a walking robot, alive, but empty inside. Although she could not remember anything from the past, whenever she sees James, she feels something different. Slowly, day by day, memories from her past hits her. She could remember bits and pieces and she remembers James.

When nothing seems important and everything matters, go with your gut. I love this book. The love that James and Sloan has is like Bella and Edwards'. It's unbearably sweet and the story line is utterly moving. Not gonna lie, I finished this in less than 5 hours. The last time I read a book this fast was Twilight? I don't know. It was amazing. I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book!

The Sword of Summer Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard

The Sword of Summer (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard)

Rick Riordan has done it again! I always find myself either laughing till my stomach feels flat or sitting at the edge of my chair, reading the words off the pages like my life depends on it. It's exciting, funny, and adventurous. The myth that Riordan plays in his story is so complete and well thought out. You will not disappoint, in fact, you will be mind blown. It's not the old Percy Jackson myth but more like Thor and Loki kind of myth. However, it is nothing like the Marvel movie, that I guarantee.

This story is about Magus who dies but is still alive. (stay with me. It will only get more confusing) When a demigod dies, they go to this underworld hotel where they get to train and prepare for a battle between the Nine Worlds. Still wrapping around the fact that Magnus is dead, he has to find the sword that his father, who is a god that he just found out, gave away. He has to find it before evil does and he has to stop them from freeing the Wolf, strongest and terrifying wolf in the Nine Worlds.

From being a homeless kid to fighting three giants and saving Thor; Magnus not only made new loyal friends but also found himself. Even though everyone doubted on him and even a prophecy said he was not meant to be the one to save everyone or the hero of Nine Worlds, Magnus is determined to do what he feels right.

It's an amazing book and despite being on a quest that most likely will kill Magnus, he always finds a way to lighten things up. Riordan has a great sense of humor.

The Heart of Betrayal Book Review

The Heart of Betrayal

It's not everyday you get kidnapped by the man who killed your brothers and kept you alive just because you are gifted and have super powers.

In this book, Lia was taken away by her kingdom's sworn enemy, betrayed by Kaden, and now has to find a way to get out. In addition to all the mess she is in, she does not know whether she should trust Kaden, the man who she thought was protecting her but was assigned to kill her or the Rafe, the prince who lied to her.

Though she was held prisoner, Lia never gave up hope that she will one day be free. She now knows that Kaden will always be loyal to Venda and Venda will always be her enemy. Rafe on the other hand, risk all he had, his kingdom and his life to save Lia. Together, Lia and Rafe plan to escape but Komizar, the leader of Venda, is too cunning. Komizar would never let Lia walk out of his kingdom alive. Whiles Komizar is away, Lia gets the chance to explore the land of Venda and saw not loyalty in the people's eyes but fear. They fear Komizar, the soldiers and the Council. Lia wants to use those fear to her advantage. Will she win over the people and escape? Will she win the battle between her and Komizar with Kaden on his side? Will her power be a gift or a curse?

I think Pearson is trying to make me cry, I think she is, and yes, she succeed. The ending tho. ARGH! I CANNOT! HOW? WHAT? okay. Let's take a step back. The beginning of the story was exciting and dangerous. When you get to the middle, you feel as if it's your mission and your life is literally on the line. In the end, you will just *flipthetable . This book will definitely leave a deep scar in your memory and the feels man. ohh boyy. After I finished the book, I immediately checked on goodreads and there is a third book coming! Yay right? no! The book comes out on August! That is literally 8 months. 8 months of not knowing what will happen to Lia? After I have connected with her, feel for her and actually live in her mindset for 470 pages? NO !

You can tell it was a brutally amazing book. It is exciting, powerful, and fierce. Just read with caution, maybe lock you feels aside for a while.

Rebel Belle

Rebel Belle

“Look at him. Whole life turned upside down, and he’s in there making pizza rolls.”

Harper Price's live was perfect; perfect grade, perfect boyfriend, perfect student, perfect daughter, perfect neighbor, perfect citizen, and a perfect future well planned. On her important night, the night she will be crown as the Prom Queen, her destiny changed. She changed. From being a normal highschool girl, she changed to become a protector. Now, she has some superhero power and a duty. Harper has to protect David, the boy she swore she hates, from being killed.

Still trying to make sense of what is happening in her life, Harper has to find out who is hunting David, why is he hunted, and try not to get both of them killed in that process. When balancing between her perfect life and her secret destiny to protect David goes out of line, Harper has to choose what is more important; the perfectly normal life she has or protect David, her least favorite person.

This book kind of remind me of The Vampire Diaries for some reason. I keep imagining Elena and Caroline when I was reading this book. Actions are packed in all 300+ pages. Every chapter there is either someone dead or someone going to die. The ending has a very clever twist that will leave the readers breathless. Trust me, when you get to the end of the book, you will be holding your knife, ready to fight for the next book. It's brutally amazing and leaves you restless.

We'll Always have Summer

“He didn’t give me flowers or candy. He gave me the moon and the stars. Infinity"

We'll Always have Summer

This book has drama in every single page. Don't get me wrong, it's not the Kardashian drama I'm talking about. It's the type of drama you have when you are in love with two boys and they are both brothers. ohhhboyyy what a headache.

Belly have only ever loved two boys in her life. Her first, Conrad Fisher, who broke her heart but even so, every little broken piece of her still loves him. Then came Jeremiah Fisher, her past, present, and future, her best friends and her saver. After Conrad breaks up with Belly and left to California, Jere comes into Belly's life, fixes her broken pieces and makes her fall in love with a Fisher again.

When Jere and Belly were about to break up, they notice how much they needed each other, how much being apart hurts both of them, and how much darker tomorrow will be if they could not have each other today. Jeremiah and Belly then decide to get married. However, even with all her broken pieces fixed, each of them still holds feelings for Conrad. When Conrad comes back for the summer, Belly is unable to get her heart and mind to work together. She cannot decide what to let go and what to hold on to. When she has to choose between the two brothers, will she choose the one who is her first love but broke her heart or will she choose the one who fixed her but knows she cannot fully commit her love to?

In my opinion,  the characters here are a little childish but to be fair, they are all just high school lads getting married at 18 years old. Don't we all make stupid mistakes when we are in high school? To me, Conrad and Jere have a very strong personality in them, even though they are brothers they are totally different. Conrad is more calm, mature, quiet, and mysterious. Jere is more fun, adventurous, playful, and charming. Belly, on the other hand, is a mess. She cannot get her mind to decide and her heart to follow. She kind of reminds me of myself. I am the worst at making decisions and if I am in Belly's shoes, I would just run and hide. However, I did learn one thing from my many years of bad experiences and decisions, and that is: You can only make decisions for yourself, no one, not even your parents or your other half, knows what you want and what matters to you most. They can only give you advice, it's your responsibility, over yourself, to make the decision that is best for you. I always have this little saying whenever I don't know what to do, "if your head and heart doesn't know what to do, go with your gut." Although your gut is behind, it will always have your back. (get it? *wink)

In the end, Belly finally makes the decision that is right for her. The choices she made may hurt, it may leave scars, and it may be wrong but it is what she wants, it is what matters to her. It's not selfish to make decisions based on what you want, it's self-love. It's selfish to make decisions for others to get what you want and it's selfish to make decisions because everyone wants you to, more people will get hurt that way.

I hope ya'll had a lovely holiday and a wonderful new year. This is my first post for 2016! Let's make an adventure out of 2016 !

The Rose Society

The Rose Society

Marie Lu has done it again! I felt so afraid of my own thoughts when I read this book. It's dark and mysterious, it's kind of like having a demon talking to you, persuading you, and ruling over you. It's dark.

In this book, Adelina has to build her own allies after the Daggers betrayed her and she betrayed them. She has to find people who are willing to follow her, to kill for her and to die for her. Though the journey, she finds amazing Elites with great powers to side with her. However, with all the power she is now holding, comes with a price. Her illusions become her reality and her power becomes her undoing. The demon voice inside her head that keeps telling her to have her revenge slowing becomes her own voice. She dwells in her past with a vengeance. Now, she has to and wants to take over the throne but in order to do so, she has to go against her sister, the Dagger, and Enzo, she has to go against very good will that is left in her body. Although Adelina constantly has the debate between good and bad, one thing never change; she will do anything she can to survive and to have power.

This is truly a dark book that one should be scared of reading at night. The power that Adelina has is dangerous yet inspiring. Her determination is really strong. Throughout the book, you can see how she, as a character, has grown in power and changed to be evil. It's not everyday you get to be the bad guy in the story but still win. This book feeds the inner demon in everyone. It's brutally amazing and a beautifully written book.

Design the Life You Love

Design the Life You Love Book Review

I maybe accidentally finished this book in one sitting. It was very entertaining and fun! The author actually advised the readers to read the book everyday for only 20 minutes but I broke that rule. There's many pages in the book for the readers to doodle and to write down their thoughts and ideas. I think that is a fun and a creative way to help the readers learn how to design their life. It has definitely changed my perspective and how I would like to plan my future. I used to think that I have to do this or to do that to reach my goal but after reading this book, I realized that you have to draw out your life in order for it to actually come true. Making a list is great but draw out a mind map of what you want to be in the future, how you want to feel and how you picture yourself being happy, and being the best version of you. I know that no one is perfect but it is not wrong in wanting a better you for the future. It is not a crime to want to be happy and to have the life you dream of.

Change Your Brain, Change Your Life

Change Your Brain, Change Your Life

You do not need a to spend $500 dollar on a therapy section. This book has it all. After reading this book, I got to understand my brain so much better and it was so clear to me now on why I feel the way I felt, why I do the things I did, and why my mind is constantly in a battle with me. It's not a heart vs mind thing, but a brian thing. Literally.

One of the major takeaway I got from this book was the 20-40-60 rule:

In your 20s, you care so much on what people think about you.
In your 40s, you stop giving shit on what people think about you.
In your 60s, you realized that no one was really watching you because they were too busy thinking about themselves.

This book also consist of many stories about people who have gone through brain issues which leads them to the act differently. These issues do not only occur to people with disorders or mental illnesses, it can happen to anybody. Have you ever felt depressed, empty, anxious, or just not yourself? This book explains how our brain works and how we can fix our brain to solve our inner battle.

It was so therapeutic and a good relaxing read. I not only got to learn more about my brain, but also about myself.

Bright Lights, Dark Nights || Book Review

Bright Lights, Dark Nights

"My sister used to say there's millions of colors in the world, but most people only see a few shades of gray," Naomi said.

This book was amazingly touching, cute and true. It is about love, friends, family, and race. We all live in a world where races may never be equal. We might not want to admit it but it is true, tho we are better at not judging other cultures then we were before. This book tells a story about a white boy, Walter,  falling in love with a black girl, Naomi. The setting in the book is at a big, complex city where color skin is not seen as equal. Everything is fine, until Walter's dad got into a big situation that includes racism. Walter has to find a way to keep his relationship with Naomi whiles trying to convince his dad that colors are only color and what's important is the soul inside.

Some strong sentence that I marked down on this book are:

People are going to look at you. Everyone's going to have an opinion. Get used to the whisper.

You can replace all the broken bulbs and relight the darkest alley, one at a time, until the whole thing glows bright like Main Street.

I really recommend this book because Walter is just an amazing boy and to be in his head space through out this book, you can really connect to him. He is naive and a little insecure. His family was pretty messed up. He grew up in an environment without love. His dad was a workaholic and his mom was depressed. He basically had no one to tell him that he did a good job, that he had amazing eyes, that he was special and unique. He didn't have his parents complimenting him, guiding him and supporting him. As you read through the book, you can see and feel how Walter grew stronger physically and mentally. It was a really good read and the pictures in the book were really entertaining.

Fairest || Book Review

Fairest by Marissa Meyer

1. Can we just pause and admire the cover? I still cant get over how pretty and haunted it looks.
2. My copy was signed by Marissa Meyer, meant she touched it. Yep I am a total Fangirl.

Love is a conquest. Love is war.

From the title and the cover, you might think it's about Snow White but it isn't. It is about the evil queen. Not many books allow us to see the evil queen's perspective. Through this book, I kindda question myself, is the evil queen really that evil? All she was, to me, was selfish. She was selfish for love, for beauty, and for power.

The evil queen, Levana, is the second child. Her parents died when she is young and her elder sister takes over the crown. Her elder sister, Channary, treats Levana horribly.  She makes Levana feel so desperate and help less, feel so worthless and ugly. But what can Levana do? She is her sister and she is the queen.

Levana fells in love with a guard, Evret. But Evret has a wife who was already pregnant. Now, if I stop here you would think that Levana kills the wife to get what she wants but that's not the case. Levana is not evil yet. Evert's wife dies when she was giving birth to a little girl. Evret names her Winter. Levana saw this as an opportunity for her so she manipulates Evret with her powers to marry her. (If you can't remember, Lunar have supernatural powers, like what you see with vampires in Twilight, and those who don't have powers are called shells)

When Channary becames pregnant as well, Levana knows that she lost her place in the royal throne. Channary catches a bad disease and dies the following week. Levana is left to take care of two children that wasn't even hers, Winter and Channary's daughter, Selene. She knows that when Selene grows older, Selene will take over the throne but until then, Levana was the queen and she would do everything in her power to make a mark in her reign.

There was a part on the book that was really sad and surprising. It was when Levanana tells her story of why she always uses charms to disguise her real look. She was burnt when she was young by Channary. Channary, like all Lunar, has powers too and she manipulated Levana to enter into big flame of fire. Standing there, not moving, crying for help but could not escape the manipulation Channary place in her head, Levana was severally burnt. Snow like Ashes || Book Review

Snow Like Ashes

Winter is destroyed and the magic of the land fades away like a drying water color. Or is it really? Snow like Ashes is a really 'girl power' like story. The character, Meria, who is an orphan, along with eight of Winterians escape the Spring Kingdom that has destroyed Winter and have been waiting years to attack back and free the people of Winterians that has been enslaved. However, with magic lost, it is impossible for 8 people to attack a bold army of Spring.

As Meria grows up, she learns self defense, history of Winter, and also fighting. Meria, even though was a baby when Winter was destroyed, feels a strong connection, a strong desire to save Winter. She wants Winter to be dancing with magic again and the people to roam around freely. Among the 8 survivors was the prince, Mather. Mather and Meria grew up together, but knowing he is the prince and she was only an orphan, she dare not to speak of her heart.

They try to seek alliance with other kingdoms but no one was willing to go against Spring for a lost cost of Winter. When they do find a kingdom to help, it was for a price. William, the commander, along with the prince, made a deal with the kingdom, Cordell. The price is Meria. Meria will have to marry the prince of Cordell,Theron. Tension between Mather and Theron got hot but Marie knows what she has to do for Winter. She struggles before to think what was her true purpose. Now she knows she no longer speak for herself, but for Winterians, for Winter.

When Meria is captured by Spring, she learns the true secret to how and why Spring had destroyed Winter. She is also put into a cell with all the Winterians. In the cave where all her people stayed for decades, she finds hope and new strength to get Winter back.

It was a very touching and adventurous book. There's a lot of thriller, romance, and action going on. Simple to say, it's like a big old hot soup with everything you love in it on a cold winter day. I really want to get my hands on the next squeal now.

BTW, I have an exciting post coming up this weekend so stay tone !

Ashes to Ashes || Book Review

Ashes to Ashes

I am forever deeply scared by this book. It has a whole new level of creepiness. Definitely not suppose to be reading this at night but I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed this book. The romance, the betrayal, the drama, and the sacrifices felt so real. After five minutes into the book, your heart will literally feel sore. The characters were so well though out and even though you don't know what their favorite color is or their favorite pizza toppings, it is as if they are you best friend already at page two. Nonetheless, it was brutally unforgettable.

This book is about  a group of girls, Lilia, Kat, Mary and Rennie, who were best friends but grew apart and became strangers at high school. One day when Rennie died, it brought Lillia and Kat back together but they could not find where Mary went, maybe she moved on and moved away but that was what they thought. As their last year of high school went by, things started to get haunted. They started seeing Mary floating around and in their dreams. Was she dead or was it just an illusion?

I crawl into a ball after reading this book. It was sooooooooooooo creepy but touching at the same time. After reading this book, I literally don't know what to think or feel and that's the power of a good book. It slowly grabs your soul , little piece by piece, and won't let you go even when you hit the last word of the book.

My History with Reading

A lot of people asked my why I love or enjoy reading. Well, here's my history of reading.

When I was a kid, I used to dislike reading. My parents would drag me to the bookstore and library on the weekends, and we would spend two hours there. Two hours to me then seemed like ten hours, but my sister loved going to the library. She would skip her way to her little comfort corner and dive into the books. We often go to different section of the library, but one day, I watched her from the corner of my eyes as I was pretending to read a random book I picked up from the shelf. Her eyes danced through the line of words so fast like she was in a race. I watched how her body stayed in the present, but her mind and soul wandered in the book. That inspired me to give reading a second chance.
I started reading The Magic Tree House, The Chronicles of Narnia, and a lot of Disney classic storybooks.  I could remember staring at the pages in the beginning of the book, reading the words but not knowing what it was saying. My mind was constantly wandering off somewhere else, but the motivation from my sister gave me a boost to not give up. As the novel got exciting, I started to fall deeply into the story like a maze. The world of fantasy was created so perfectly that it made reality boring. From then on, I was engaged in the world of books and the fantasy that it brings. I figured the reason why I disliked reading before was because I never knew what interested me most. After I discovered fiction, fantasy, and adventure novels, it stated to spread like a disease in me. I wanted and needed more. I read a lot after that. I started setting goals to read at least an hour every day and to read 50 books a year. For an eight year old child, my parents were impressed that I managed to achieve that.
While my elementary childhood consisted of lots of playground rocks and fictional books, my teenage years were a lot more stressful and bumpy. When middle school kicked in, time was gold. I became very busy with school work, projects, extra curriculum and making new friends. By then, I realized that I was reading more of textbooks, science documents, historical facts and other documentaries that would help me in school. At that time, I thought that I had to put away my fantasy and start being a ‘grown up.’ My parents were certainly happy about that because it meant that I would not be dancing around with Peter Pan and wondering off to Neverland anymore. However, books are like drugs. The imaginative part of me grew aggressive and craved for some fantasy. I started to make time to read. I remember going to the book store and was lost in the mountain of books. I did not realize how many books had been published since I lasted kept tracked. I spent the next two hours searching on Goodreads for the perfect book. Then, the book Twilight caught my eyes. I saw mixed reviews of them, but the story line caught my attention.
Reading Twilight gave me a sudden rush of all my childhood memories. I missed the feeling of being nervous when starting a book, the feeling of excitement in the middle story, and the feeling of satisfaction after finishing a good book. That was when I picked up reading again. I started buying more books and my book shelf grew massively big by the end of the year. Books became a huge part of me again. It was not just for entertainment but also books helped me build long lasting friendships. A few of my classmates loved to read as well and we would often gather together to discuss and share our thoughts. It got to a point where we were so emerged in the book that the ending was not enough. We started writing our own endings, what we thought might happen to the characters after the author finished the last sentence, and what would happen if the plot was different. My sister always says that I get connected too easily, and I cannot argue with that. After a few chapters into a book, I feel as if I have known the characters for a long time, and they are a part of my life.
After reading the Twilight Saga, I started getting into Nicholas Sparks’ novels at the peak of my teenager days. I remember how his books could influence me, and the way I viewed love as a teenager. It totally ruined my expectation of love in the real life, but I was fine with it because for that seven hours of reading the book, I fell deeply in love with the characters and the story line. I also started reading different romance books from different authors like Where the Rainbow Ends and P.S. I love you by Cecelia Ahern.  After reading tons of romance books, it finally sank into me, and I grew out of it. I turned to another genre of books; mystery, fantasy, horror, and thriller. I started reading The Divergent Series, Made for You, Thirst Series, The Vampire Diaries, Maze Runner, Percy Jackson, Mortal Instruments, Infernal Device, and a whole lot more. My small two row book shelf became an eight row book cabinet. I started collecting books, and so did my sister. She was really into Harry Potter. She always finished the book too fast before the next sequel came out. It was a pain for her to wait and a pain for me to watch. I have tried reading Harry Potter, and I managed to finish the first two books; however, I find it difficult to read the rest of the series after I watched all the movies. I was disappointed and ashamed that I could not bring myself to be patient enough to read the books before the movie.
Recently, I have picked up a different genre of books and have been enjoying it. It’s mostly fictional novels but with a deep meaning behind the words of the authors. Books like, Wonders, All the Bright Places, We are All Made of Molecules, The Last Time We Say Goodbye, and The Faults in Our Stars. I started reading Melissa Marr, John Green, Marie Lu, Jenny Han, and Cynthia Hand’s book. These books made me more aware of what is going on in the world that I would never get a chance to see or to experience in one life time. I can see how my taste in books has changed over time but also is still similar. I started off loving fantasy as a child then faded out to more educational books. I, then, grew interest in fiction novels again but later got caught up with romance books which sank in really quickly. Now, my genre of books are wide and undefined. I can read anything and everything as long as it has a good ending. I learned now that a happy ending is not as important as a satisfying read. If the book can make me cry and laugh but has a sad, horrible ending, I would still be glad I read to the end.
Reading has changed me in a way that is both scary but fun. I, now have a world of fantasy I can escape to when the reality seems too scary. I have books to turn too when I feel a little off the edge or lonely. I have books to teach me lessons about life and expose me to different things in life. I am still not sure if I love reading or not. It is a love-hate relationship I have with books. I love reading and the imagination I gain from them. However, I still struggle to let the characters go after the last sentence in the book. I would need a full solid day for everything to sink into my system. Ending a book has always been hard for me. It is like saying goodbye to an old good friend.

Books are immortal and a portal to magic. Reading is where I find my ultimate comfort zone and a place where I do not have to hide. Reading and writing have definitely pulled me out of the darkest experiences in my life. Stories have given me a place where I can lose myself. They allow me to remember and to forget. They allow me to imagine different endings and a possibility of a better world. As Neil Gaiman quoted, “A book is a dream that you hold in your hands.”

Now you know my history, what's yours?
